MLB's Miami Marlins postpone game vs. Baltimore Orioles amid COVID-19 outbreak within team

The Miami Marlins, who have had at least 12 of their players and staff members test positive for the coronavirus, have postponed their home game tonight in Miami against the Baltimore Orioles, a high- ranking MLB official told USA TODAY Sports. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the confidential nature of the information.

The team remains in Philadelphia to continue undergoing testing, with the outbreak spreading throughout the clubhouse. Depending on positive tests, the Marlins will have to self-isolate in for 14 days, per MLB and the Players’ Association health and safety protocols.. Friday, the team placed catcher Jorge Alfaro on the injured list, with no reason given. Sunday, they scratched starting pitcher Jose Urena 90 minutes before he was scheduled to start their series finale at Philadelphia.

There's a possibility that the infections occurred Wednesday on the team's trip to and from Atlanta, where the Marlins played the Braves in an exhibition game. "We're taking risks every day,” Mattingly told reporters Sunday. “ Michael Hill told me early on we were going to need to be adjustable, patient. We set ourselves up to deal with a lot. We're getting tested early. Hopefully we're not tested later."
