One incident involved Riley criticizing Butler during his end-of-season press conference for saying that the Celtics and Knicks would have been at home if Butler had been healthy during Miami's first-round playoff loss. Riley told Butler, 'If you’re not on the court playing against Boston or on the court playing against the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut.' The report suggests Butler was also disappointed that the organization didn't publicly deny a report about the team potentially trading him. There are also reports of frustration over a social media spat between Butler and ESPN reporter Shams Charania.
