Real Housewives of Potomac alum Mia Thornton faces a rent lawsuit over $2,859 in alleged back rent at a luxury apartment amid her criminal case

According to new court documents obtained by Us Weekly, a luxury apartment building sued Thornton, 41, for alleged back rent. The docs, filed on March 18, claimed that the Real Housewives of Potomac alum allegedly owes $2,859 in past due rent for the month of March.

Us has reached out to representatives for Thornton for comment. News of Thornton’s recent legal issue comes four months after she was arrested on felony theft charges. Thornton was accused of stealing over $11,000 worth of furniture from a condo she had been renting in Atlanta, per a police report obtained by Us. She allegedly took radios, TVs, DVD players and other goods. Thornton was subsequently “taken into custody without incident” and transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing. According to body cam footage, Thornton emotionally confessed that she was aware there was a warrant out for her arrest. Later that month, Us broke the news that Thornton was sued by Encore Management for eviction months prior to her arrest. The lawsuit claimed that Thornton rented a property but failed to pay the rent on a three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,011 square foot unit located in Atlanta. The management company demanded that Thornton to be evicted and pay the past due rent of $5,100 for September, plus $6,085 per month she remained.“This new year is about rebuilding, refining and rising with purpose,” she wrote via Instagram. “I’m grateful for the clarity that comes through adversity, and I’m committed to moving forward with integrity and grace. Thank you for the love, my loves.” In a subsequent post, Thornton vowed that she was moving forward and focusing on “alignment, elevation and elegance.” “This past week reminded me of the importance of staying grounded, especially when life feels loud,” she shared. “I’m stepping into another year with clarity, accountability and gratitude. Challenges don’t define me — how I rebuild does.” Thornton was best known for appearing on RHOP for four seasons. The reality star exited the Bravo series ahead of season 10, as she and her family were relocating to Atlanta. “The past four seasons have been an unforgettable journey, one filled with growth, lessons, and so many incredible memories,” she shared via Instagram in April 2025. “I want to thank Truly Original, Bravo, NBCUniversal and Andy Cohen for believing in me and giving me the space to share my story. To my castmates: thank you for the laughs, the lessons, and the unforgettable moments. And to the amazing fans, your love and support has meant everything to me. I’ll always carry that with me.”
