The MG4—a battery electric vehicle produced by SAIC Motor under the British MG marque it owns—has been crowned as UK’s Car of the Year for 2023.
An expert panel of 27 automotive journalists praised the MG4’s design, quality, and outstanding value for money—recognizing that the new fully electric hatchback puts zero emissions motoring within reach for more people than ever. Known as the MG Mulan in China, the MG4 managed to beat out several internal combustion engine models at either end of the performance spectrum. The MG4 won by a considerable margin over its six other rivals.The UK Car of the Year title is the 15th major award achieved by the MG4 EV in the last six months, including four other Car of the Year titles. The model has also received recognition from Euro NCAP for achieving the maximum five-star safety rating.
The MG4 rides on SAIC’s new Modular Scalable Platform giving it a 50:50 front to back weight distribution, rear wheel drive, and thin battery technology with either a lithium ion phosphate or nickel cobalt manganese construction. Currently, the MG4 uses a single-motor setup either producing 170 or 204 horsepower . This gives it a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.7 or 7.9 seconds, and a top speed of 160 km/h. The standard range version, with a 51 kWh battery offers a range of up to 350 kilometers, while the long range version, with its 64 kWh battery does up to 452 kilometers.Best Family – MG4Best Coupé – Toyota GR86
