Conservationists have hailed the boost to ancient pinewood at Alladale Wilderness Reserve in the Highlands, owned by rewilding millionaire Paul Lister.
A fragment of Scotland’s ancient Caledonian pinewood has been restored in the Highlands after two decades of work led by MFI tycoon Paul Lister.
Lister, who inherited a £50million fortune when his family sold the MFI flat-pack furniture chain, is laird of Alladale and its 23,000-acre estate.Scotland’s wildlife agency NatureScot hailed the “transformation” of the ancient pinewood at Alladale, which now meets all criteria to be classed as in “favourable condition”.
Jeanette Hall, a NatureScot woodland specialist, said, “It’s wonderful to see the transformation of this ancient pinewood, particularly right now when nature restoration is so crucial to tackle the biodiversity loss and climate change crises.” Top news stories today James Rainey, senior ecologist at the charity, said: "With the climate and biodiversity crises intensifying, enabling the recovery of Scotland’s remnant pinewoods has never been more important.
