Authorities at a central Mexico airport discovered four human skulls in a shipment that was headed for the United States.
Law enforcement officials were called by Mexico’s National Guard to an airport in Queretaro after an X-ray detected human remains in a package. The box containing the skulls wrapped in plastic and aluminum foil had been shipped from Apatzingan, which is located in the Mexican state of Michoacan. It is known for having some of the most violent cities in the world and is also home to Los Viagras, one of the most wanted and bloodiest drug cartels.
Transfer of human remains requires a special permit from a health authority. Otherwise, it violates Mexican laws on the handling of corpses. There is no known permit obtained for this package. The Mexican National Guard did not provide further details as to the age, identity, or name of the persons involved in sending and receiving the parcel.
