MEXC has appointed Robert MacDonald, former Chief Legal & Compliance Officer at Bybit, as its new Chief Compliance Officer.

, a cryptocurrency exchange known for its zero-fee digital asset trading offering, has appointed Robert MacDonald as Chief Compliance Officer. MacDonald brings more than two decades of experience in regulatory strategy, compliance and governance across traditional finance and digital assets.

In his new role, MacDonald will oversee MEXC's global compliance strategy, governance framework and engagement with regulators as the exchange continues to expand its operations and product offering across international markets. MacDonald joins MEXC from Bybit, where he served as Chief Legal & Compliance Officer. During his tenure, he was responsible for the exchange's global licensing strategy and corporate legal operations, while also overseeing the implementation of international anti-money laundering and know-your-customer frameworks.

His previous experience includes senior roles at Standard Chartered and Binance, where he worked on regulatory strategy, compliance transformation and corporate governance. In 2025, MacDonald was also recognized among Asian Legal Business' Top 15 Chief Compliance Officers for his work navigating regulatory challenges in the digital asset industry.

In recent months, the exchange has expanded its offering to include equities-related products, IPO access and other asset classes, seeking to provide retail users with access to a wider range of global financial markets. The expansion has increased the importance of regulatory and compliance infrastructure as MEXC operates across multiple jurisdictions and introduces products connected to traditional financial markets. MacDonald's mandate will focus on three primary areas.

The first is cross-jurisdictional governance, with the goal of establishing scalable compliance frameworks that maintain international standards while adapting to local regulatory requirements. The second is data-driven risk management, which will involve using analytics and automated infrastructure to identify and mitigate platform risks while supporting responsible access to financial markets. The third is strategic regulatory engagement, including collaboration with regulators and industry stakeholders to promote clearer compliance standards and strengthen the exchange's long-term regulatory alignment.

MacDonald said the cryptocurrency industry has matured significantly over the past decade, with rapid innovation and growing global demand creating new challenges around trust and regulatory oversight.

"As the industry matures, trust won't be a competitive advantage, but the price of entry, and compliance takes on a bigger role," MacDonald said. He added that compliance would serve as a foundation for sustainable growth and that resilient platforms capable of protecting users would be better positioned to operate in increasingly complex markets. MEXC CEO Vugar Usi said that expanding access to new financial opportunities also creates a responsibility for the exchange to maintain user trust.

The appointment underscores the growing role of compliance as cryptocurrency exchanges move toward broader financial services. As platforms increasingly combine digital assets with equities, IPO products and other traditional market offerings, regulatory expertise is becoming a more central component of their expansion strategies. For MEXC, MacDonald's appointment signals an effort to strengthen the governance infrastructure supporting its international growth while continuing to develop new products across the global financial market landscape.
