The New York Mets have to sort out their last outfield spot, but one insider believes it should be an easy choice.
The New York Mets don't have their roster set just yet, but decisions will be coming in the near future. One of those decisions is for the third and final starting outfield spot. Two of the positions are occupied by Luis Robert Jr.
and Juan Soto, and they were never up for grabs. The third one, though, is wide open for the taking. However, insider Tim Britton believes it should be given to outfield prospect Carson Benge."While Carlos Mendoza keeps postponing any discussion of the Opening Day roster, let’s start the final full week of spring training with this: Carson Benge should be the Mets’ Opening Day right fielder,"."Benge should be the Mets’ Opening Day right fielder because he has the highest 2026 ceiling of any of the options there, because he has met the moment throughout spring and done everything the Mets asked of him, and because the Mets’ roster can easily carry Benge and his primary competition for the role in Mike Tauchman." Aside from Benge and Tauchman, the other options are MJ Velendez or Tyrone Taylor. Neither of those players, along with Tauchman, are stellar and warrant earning a starting spot. Benge has the most upside out of anyone in the group and can quickly blossom into a star player. Utilizing Benge to provide a little bit of youth into the lineup will also help to provide the Mets with a new identity as the organization tries to retool and push for the National League East division title.
