Mets didn't select any player in the MLB portion of Rule 5 Draft
Left-hander Nate Lavender was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays, and right-hander Mike Vasil, the team’s No. 12 prospect,, was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies. Dom Hamel, the team’s No. 11 prospect, was not taken in the draft, meaning he stays put.
This doesn’t necessarily apply to Lavender, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May. Since he will likely remain on the injured list for much of the season, he does not have to be placed on an active roster.in his appearances in spring training last year. Like Cortes, the 6-foot-2 reliever messes with the hitter’s timing with a hesitation move. Though his fastball won’t blow you away, maxing out in the low-90s, it plays well because it carries “will,” he told reporters in camp.
Vasil has the makeup of a big-league pitcher, he just hasn’t been able to execute like one yet. He features a four-pitch mix including a slider, sweeper, change up and a four-seamer that tops out in the high 90s.
