The New York Mets are now far along in their search for a new manager and there is a surprise candidate in the mix.
reported on Thursday, the Mets are now in the stages of interviewing candidates in-person and are trending towards making a hire within the week.bench coach Carlos Mendoza in-person on Wednesday and are meeting with the favorite, Craig Counsell, on Thursday in New York. There are believed to be at least one or two other finalists for the job.
A surprise candidate, Oakland Athletics manager Mark Kotsay, is said to be in the mix as well, but the extent is unknown.
