Mets top managerial candidate didn't choose New York in surprise pivot

Counsell set out to set the bar for manager salaries this offseason. He did just that in taking the Cubs job, where he will earn $40 million over five years . “Craig can play things very close to the vest and in this case clearly he played it very close to the vest because none of us knew where this was headed,” Stearns added, via The Post.organization since 2009, managing in the minor leagues and most recently being the bench coach under manager Aaron Boone for the past four seasons. He has also worked as an infield coach and a roving defensive instructor.
