The New York Mets hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday in the home opener at Citi Field. Before the game, the club unveiled its statue of Tom Seaver.
, New York City honored Robinson’s legacy “by temporarily renaming 42nd Street and Broadway in Manhattan to Jackie Robinson Way.”
Commissioner Rob Manfred was joined by Sonya Pankey, the late Robinson’s eldest granddaughter; Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr., Mariano Rivera and Joe Torre; and former big leaguers Harold Reynolds, Willie Randolph, CC Sabathia and Butch Huskey in Times Square on Friday for the ceremony, which culminated with the unveiling of a new blue and white Jackie Robinson Way street sign featuringPlayers across the majors on Friday will don Robinson’s No. 42 — and all of them in Dodger blue this year.
