Hurricane Milton passed through central Florida Wednesday night with heavy rain, strong winds and major storm surge.
PORTLAND – “We were down to the south near Venice Beach when the storm surge actually came in,” Adair said. “We started to see some of the home be inundated as the winds became onshore. So those flood waters had all kinds of debris in them, because you still had several pieces of debris laying around from the last hurricane, which was Helene.”As Adair was driving just south of Tampa, he came across a disabled vehicle on the side of the road.
“We came up on a vehicle that had rolled off on the southbound side of 75 and got out and attempted to render aid as well as two or three other drivers,” Adair said. “The windows were knocked out, we got out to check if everybody was OK. We could not find an individual in the vehicle.”“So we encountered tons of downed trees and powerlines, several metal roofing structures ripped off those gas station awnings, they didn’t stand a chance with that type of wind,” Adair said.
“You could literally see the power currents on the lines themselves,” Adair said. “That’s a phenomenon that I’ve seen a couple of times, and that’s usually when you know with really high winds that the power is going to go down, because there are issues down the line somewhere.” Thankfully the storm has moved out to sea, but people who were in Milton's path will be dealing with the aftermath for a long time to come.
