The center, to be built off Interstate 65 across from Hyundai’s automotive assembly plant, was announced in May 2024.

Meta Tuesday announced it is expanding its commitment to a Montgomery Data Center, pumping as much as $1.5 billion into the project. According to an announcement from the Alabama Department of Commerce, the news came during a closed construction tour with state and regional leaders.

Once completed, the Montgomery Data Center campus will total more than 1.3 million square feet and will be optimized for workloads associated with artificial intelligence. Meta also operates Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp, with data centers providing the infrastructure necessary to keep the platforms running. Ellen McNair, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, said the expansion “reinforces our state’s ability to compete for global projects, create high-quality jobs and build the infrastructure needed to support a modern economy.” The center will support over 1,500 workers on site at peak construction, according to estimates. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. California-based Meta, the parent company of Facebook, opened its first Alabama data center campus in Huntsville in 2021. Henry Thornton, community development regional manager at Meta, said that Montgomery “has proven to be a perfect home for a Meta data center.” “The support of this incredible community, together with the partnership we’ve experienced with state and local leaders, have made it possible for us to expand our facility and continue investing in Montgomery’s long-term vitality,” Thornton said.“This investment reflects our vision of building a modern economy rooted in innovation, talent, and quality of life,” Reed said. “Meta’s continued growth here affirms what we know to be true: Montgomery is a place where global companies can thrive, and where innovation and community go hand in hand.” Galleria’s proposed $240 million redevelopment would demolish retail anchors to build apartments, city centerBirmingham-area barbecue restaurant on closed road shuts down to ‘regroup and prepare’If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
