Meta , the parent company of Facebook and Instagram , announced on Tuesday that it is discontinuing its third-party fact-checking program and replacing it with a user-generated Community Notes system, similar to the one used by X (formerly Twitter). The decision comes after Meta concluded that expert fact-checkers had inherent biases and resulted in the over-fact-checking of content. Meta plans to empower its users to identify potentially misleading posts that require additional context.
