Police officers and staff claimed they were victims of racism, sexism and homophobia in the Met

MORE THAN £1.2m has been paid out by the Metropolitan Police in discrimination claims lodged against them by staff and police officers.

Over a five year span, staff who claimed they were victims of racism, sexism or homophobia took home settlements worth over £800,000 from the force, a Freedom of Information Request has revealed.showed that police officers and staff were paid up to £120,000 after damaging discrimination claims were upheld by an employment tribunal.

The Met and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, had previously denied the force took part in drawing up NDAs as the force remains under special measures. “Any of the cases will have confidentiality clauses built in as part of the settlement agreement and disclosure of [individual] settlement amounts would breach any [such] clause.”

The amount of discrimination cases settled outside of an employment tribunal were found to be more than those upheld by a tribunal with just eight out of 90 legal battles involving racism, sexism and homophobia being made public as a result.“It comes as no surprise that the Met have spent over a million pounds covering their own tracks and silencing survivors.

“The last few years have made it clear that the Met is a boys’ club that protects its own. But this incompetent boys’ club is breeding a violence so potent even its own officers have had enough.”
