This isn't the glorious summer forecast we wanted to see
This follows a turbulent few weeks with periods of sunshine interspersed with heavy downpours across the UK, dashing hopes for a warm and sunny summer. Thunderstorms have also swept much of the country in the past few days, with more forecast for Scotland on Wednesday bringing as much as 40mm of rain and a risk of flooding.
Met Office forecaster Dan Stroud said: “It’ll become generally dry with sunny spells during the course of the weekend, temperatures generally slightly above average, so the sunshine is going to feel quite pleasant.” The full Met Office long range forecast for June 2 to June 11 reads: "Early in June, conditions are likely to be more settled due to the influence of high pressure extending east over the country. A few showers could still develop in places but for most it will be a dry at the start of the period with plenty of sunshine.
"The south of the UK will probably be drier, although not ruling out scattered showers at times. Cooler and cloudier further northwest, where rain is more likely. Temperatures will probably be around normal or a little above average."
