Forecasters also said there are no signs to suggest a return to heatwave-like conditions in the foreseeable future
After nearly a full week of blistering heat that saw one of the hottest days of the year, Brits will begin to see cooler temperatures, forecasters say.
The Met Office confirmed that today's high temps are expected to hit between 20C and 21C. According to classifications, this means that the heatwave has officially ended so hopefully we can all sleep a bit better without soaking in sweat. . In Manchester, conditions are expected to become much more autumnal, with lower temperatures and cloudy/showery conditions throughout.According to the Met Office, today's forecast will see: "Often cloudy with scattered showers today, these heavy in places and perhaps locally thundery, especially this afternoon. More general periods of rain are possible in Cumbria by this evening. Still rather warm and humid. Maximum temperature 22 °C.
It added: "Another warm night for most with outbreaks of rain edging southwards. Turning drier, clearer and much cooler in Cumbria later, perhaps with a touch of grass frost by dawn. Minimum temperature 5 °C."Throughout the rest of the week, conditions will be similar, with rain throughout broken up by some small sunny spells. The Met Office continues: "A damp start to the day in southern parts of the region, but the rain slowly clearing southwards.
"Largely dry with sunny spells on Wednesday, then cloudier on Thursday with a chance of some rain, this more extensive and heavier by Friday. Feeling much fresher than recently."
