Some parts of Greater Manchester will be affected worse than others
The Met Office has issued an update ahead of the arrival of Storm Babet. The season's second named storm is expected to arrive in the UK later this week, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to many across the country.
A weather warning for heavy rain was issued for much of the country yesterday, including eastern parts of Greater Manchester, near to the Pennines and Peak District. The warning was due to come into force at 9pm tomorrow . But in an update this afternoon , the warning will now come into effect at 6am on Thursday, and run until 6am on Saturday. However, wind speeds are expected to pick up across the region tomorrow, while there is some rain currently forecast on Wednesday evening and Thursday. Heavy rain is expected in eastern parts of Greater Manchester on Friday morning. The Met Office warning also covers Yorkshire and the north east, much of the midlands, eastern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, an amber warning for rain is in place for a band of eastern Scotland, from 6am on Thursday to 6pm on Friday.
