The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning in Leeds, meaning heavy snow is forecast over the coming days.
Forecasters have applied the amber warning from Thursday afternoon until midday on Friday. The Met Office say heavy snow is likely to cause significant disruption over the next two days. People should expect delays on roads, cancellations to rail and air travel and a chance that some rural communities could become cut off. The Met Office has warned people on the best ways to stay safe during heavy snowfall.The new warning comes after a Yellow weather warning was issued across Leeds today and tomorrow, with the office increasing the warning after forecasts showed heavy snow from Thursday.
The Met Office forecast in Leeds on Thursday and Friday says: "Cold and frosty initially, with cloud building from the south and occasional snow showers along coastlines. Snow, sleet and rain spread north-eastwards through the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperature 4 °C. "Further disruptive snow and strong winds likely at some point on Friday. Saturday quieter and more settled at first, before further rain and snow possible heading into Sunday."
