Some places could see 40mm of rainfall in less than an hour
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Monday, September 2 with further thunderstorms expected in Nottinghamshire . The Met Office had initially set a warning from 4am until midnight on Sunday, September 1, but an additional warning has now been put in place for tomorrow.
The warnings cover a large part of England, as well as some parts of Wales and Scotland. The warning states: "On Monday, areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to be ongoing from overnight and expected to continue to affect parts of the UK through the day. "The focus for thunderstorms and impacts is expected to gradually move east later in the day. The extent of these thunderstorms remains very uncertain and whilst many places will miss them, some places may see 30 to 40 mm of rainfall in less than an hour and perhaps over 60-80 mm in one or two places.
"Frequent lightning strikes and hail will be additional hazards." Many parts of Nottinghamshire are already experiencing heavy rain, which means spray and sudden flooding can lead to difficulty driving conditions.
