The MetGala has become the 'Super Bowl of Fashion.' Here is a look at all of the themes throughout the years.
The Met Gala has been annual since 1948 with the exception of 1991, 2000, 2002 and 2020. In 1991, the Costume Institute didn’t hold an exhibit. In 2000 there was no Met Gala due to a canceled Chanel exhibit. In 2002 the Gala was canceled following the tragic events of 9/11. In 2020 the Gala was canceled due to the widespread COVID-19 pandemic.

It's Met Gala time again — here's what we know so farYup, it’s that time of year again. The Met Gala returns May 1, as always the first Monday in May. The uniquely star-studded evening, a fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will be hosted by Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa, along with Vogue’s Anna Wintour running the whole shebang as usual. The theme of both the party and the long-running exhibit it launches: late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 after a career in which he transformed Chanel but also stoked controversy with contentious remarks about everything from MeToo to curvy bodies.
