Illan Meslier was part of both Leeds United squads that won the Championship in 2020 and is currently chasing it down in 2024
It was at this point in 2020 Illan Meslier was closing in on his Leeds United league debut and the run-in that made Marcelo Bielsa’s side champions. Aged 19, Meslier had watched the title winners at close quarters all season from the sidelines until he got 10 of the final 11 games.
“We took game after game. It was the most important and make sure you keep having a lot of points with the need to make sure they cannot come back to you.” Now, after a 2am arrival home on Thursday morning, Meslier and his current team-mates are looking to extend their winning run in the Championship. A 10th consecutive league victory would be a club record at Huddersfield Town tomorrow.
Meslier was speaking to the media at Thorp Arch after a function alongside his compatriots at Leeds Rhinos, as well as Georginio Rutter. Rugby league stars Justin Sangare and Mika Goudemand were laughing and joking with the United men as they promoted Magic Weekend, Super League’s marquee dates on the calendar.
