Illan Meslier was widely expected to leave Leeds United in the summer but the young goalkeeper has regained his starting spot under Daniel Farke despite the arrival of Karl Darlow
Illan Meslier has spoken of his need for a 'better mindset' as Leeds United embrace their status as one of the Championship's favourites and face low blocks. The Whites' number one also admitted he welcomed the challenge of summer signing Karl Darlow, insisting the pair bring the best out of one another.
"I'll be ready to make this type of save, for example the last game against Sheffield Wednesday, I didn't do anything but finally one-v-one and I won this duel. It was important because if you concede this, you maybe lose this game at home. It's important to get the clean sheet, the first of the season.
Darlow's arrival in July was expected to precede Meslier's likely exit, but the former Newcastle United shot-stopper has so far been limited to Carabao Cup appearances. Meslier believes the signing of the 32-year-old will spur both goalkeepers to improve, and the ex-Lorient prospect insists he enjoys the competition.
"I like it because it forces you to be consistent every day, even when it is difficult, you're tired or the weather is not good. You are not lazy because you have to perform in training, so it is something I honestly like a lot and hopefully it will continue like this for the rest of the season.
