The Phoenix Elementary School District is notifying ASU Prep that it wants to end their lease agreement for the downtown Phoenix campus.

that the district has had to make the"heartbreaking decision" to cut positions after projecting a loss of about 1,800 students in the next school year. MPS officials said the district needs to reduce about $18 million in expenses from the district's budget due to the loss of students and a rise in operational costs. Fourlis did not specify how many positions will be eliminated but indicated that affected employees should be informed by Feb. 7. "This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I value every employee in Mesa Public Schools and the incredible impact they have on our students and community," Fourlis said in the district's video.
