Many of the region's Muslims will be celebrating over the next week
Hajj, the largest annual Muslim gathering, is a sacred journey that sees millions travel to Mecca. The annual practice is required of every Muslim at least once in their lifetime - it is one of the five pillars of Islam, which forms the basic foundations of a Muslim’s beliefs.
Hajj is made up of a series of rites and rituals that are said to provide a spiritual, emotional, and physical challenge for the pilgrim. It is seen as once in a lifetime trip by community members with it being predicted around two to three million will attend this year.
