It turns out that the rear axle transmission housing might not be as strong as once thought.G63 4×4² vehicles have a rear axle differential housing that can break. In the event that one does, the problem could be as simple as an oil leak or as severe as fracturing of the housing and a loss of propulsion.
According to the automaker, it launched an investigation based on internal testing showing a fracture of the housing in question. Around that same time, it worked through analyzing the failure with the supplier and it received the first cases from the field that were reported from outside of the USA. It has yet to receive any reports of third-party damages or injuries as a result of this condition.
