Meralco suffered a heavy defeat against Ryukyu Golden Kings in the East Asia Super League, jeopardizing their playoff hopes. The Bolts were outplayed in the middle quarters, ultimately losing 89-71.

Meralco 's playoff hopes in the East Asia Super League took a significant blow as they suffered an 89-71 defeat at home against Japan's Ryukyu Golden Kings on Wednesday, January 22nd, at the Phil Sports Arena. Without their import player, Akil Mitchell, the Bolts endured their second consecutive loss, dropping to fourth place in Group B with a 2-3 record.

The top two teams from each of the two groups will advance to the semifinals, putting Meralco in a must-win situation against the current Group B second-place holder, New Taipei Kings, in their final elimination game on February 12th.Cliff Hodge led the Bolts with 13 points and 7 rebounds, but Meralco faltered in the middle quarters, trailing by just a single point, 22-23, at the end of the first period. The Golden Kings, the runner-up of the previous B. League season, outscored Meralco 52-34 in the second and third quarters, securing their victory. Ange Kouame also contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds for Meralco, stepping up in the absence of their usual reinforcements. The team's situation was further hampered by import DJ Kennedy, who was limited to 3 points on 1-of-8 shooting in 20 minutes of play. While he added 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, Kennedy's performance fell short of expectations. Victor Law spearheaded Ryukyu with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Alex Kirk and Keve Aluma added 19 and 18 points respectively, while locals Yoshiyuki Matsuwaki and Ryuichi Kishimoto contributed 12 points each. With this victory, Ryukyu ended the eliminations with a 5-1 record, securing their spot in the Final Four scheduled in Macau from March 7th to 9th.
