Indian cricket fans celebrate the sport of cricket's return to the Olympics in 2028 after a 128-year absence. Bringing the world's second most popular sport into the games helps add a huge market of fans from South Asia.

JON JOHNSON Fifty years after the tragic accident, some members of the 1974 and 1975 Dothan High football teams gathered at the old gymnasium Wednesday afternoon and kneeled for a prayer on the mat the same way they had as students following the death of teammate Jon Davis, who the building was later named after.

The death of Davis, a sophomore football player who died from injuries that affected his spinal column sustained during a tackling drill held in the gym when practice was moved inside due to rain on that September day of 1973, made a lasting impact on so many over the years. There were 18 players off those two Dothan teams that went on to become preachers all across America, among them Roy Evans and Greg Clark, who were teammates on the 1974 team, which made it to the state championship game before falling to Homewood 10-7.

“My junior year I met Jon … and Jon Davis was always happy,” Evans said. “Every time I got around Jon, before the conversation was over, Jon was going to say something about Jesus. “Jon Davis’ mother and daddy treated me so nice that week. When I started to walk out of the house that day, Jon Davis’ mother put her arm around me and she said, ‘Don’t you ever stop telling kids about Jesus.’ She said, ‘Don’t you disappoint Jon.’ And that’s what I try to do.”

Parrish would later be encouraged by some of the players to attend a James Robinson Crusade that was held at Rip Hewes Stadium and it became a turning point in his life. While in town, Robinson, a well-known evangelist, came and prayed with the Dothan players and coaches on the mat.
