The first lady, who previously didn’t seem to “give a fuck” about Christmas stuff, unveiled her holly, jolly Plasticine holiday decor this week, complete with a plague of butterflies and a scowling Lego portrait of her husband.

Still, Melania Trump included several of them in her newly unveiled Christmas decor at the White House this week: elaborate playing card structures complete with spires and teeny-tiny American flags. She added a few little White House s made of dominoes too.

Dominoes, famously, have just one job: to fall. Their whole reason for existing is to collapse in spectacular fashion—something you probably wouldn’t want to happen to the White House, a symbol of democracy in America. Melania, who is the subject of a documentary also named Melania , due to hit theaters on January 30, 2026, once famously wondered, “Who gives a fuck about Christmas stuff and decorations?” Well, she’s certainly not beating the allegations with her 2025 choices. While the president goes about his usual business of calling female reporters “piggy,” Melania’s festive decor invites the idea that democracy in Trump’s America is mere child’s play. With dual portraits of George Washington and Donald Trump in the classic medium of Lego brick mosaic, and the chicken-scratch wonder that is a tree hung with ornaments devoted to the first lady’s anti-bullying Be Best campaign, elegance does not appear to be on the menu for this year’s Christmas feast. According to a release from the White House, the first lady and designer Hervé Pierre collaborated to execute this year’s theme, “Home Is Where the Heart Is,” drawing inspiration from “the joys, challenges, and frequent motion derived from motherhood and business.” Quoth Melania: “The constant movement has taught me that home is not merely a physical space; rather, it is the warmth and comfort I carry within, regardless of my surroundings. This Christmas, let’s celebrate the love we hold within ourselves, and share it with the world around us. After all, wherever we are, we can create a home filled with grace, radiance, and endless possibilities.” And, as we know, nothing says grace and radiance like Lego bricks and reminding the world of a hit Netflix show starring an accused sexual predator playing the role of a man who crimes his way to the very top and becomes president of the United States. While this is a change from Melania’s menacing blood-red Christmas trees of the past, one must wonder if she settled for those 10,000 blue butterflies because she couldn’t get a swarm of locusts on such short notice this time of year. And with the release of her tell-some documentary—helmed by none other than Brett Ratner, an accused sexual predator himself —looming on the calendric horizon, consider this another instance of Melania creating her own world. She even recently announced the launch of her very own production company, Muse Films. The business, which is seemingly named after her former Secret Service code name, Muse, gets a credit on the doc. Welcome to the first lady’s bubble: A story about Melania, created and produced by Melania, and lived by all of us.
