MELAKA: A state exco member has called for an MACC probe over the supply of ventilators to public hospitals.
State health and anti-drug committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said it does not make sense that there was no documentation as proof of sales for a major procurement, even during emergency use.
"It just isn't right as receipts will be issued even if we buy eggs from supermarkets," he said on Monday . The report stated that a total of 93 out of 136 ventilator units supplied by a company to Health Ministry facilities between 2020 and April 2022 could not be used during the Covid-19 pandemic. The report also stated that the remaining 108 units, supplied by a company only referred to as 260790-T, could not be used because they were unsuitable and unsafe for patients.
There were no documents related to ventilator procurement transactions submitted to the auditors, who were also unable to confirm the role and responsibility of company 260790-T as a company managing the procurement of ventilators and who dealt with the manufacturers.
