, a recent creation that operates alongside the orchestra’s pops series, he grew up traveling from one opera house to another with his father, the tenor Jorge Lopez-Yanez. His mother, Ruth Weber, is a singer, songwriter, teacher and choir director based in San Diego. She and her daughter, Emilia Lopez-Yanez, an oboist and vocalist, have released albums together. When Emilia got married, Enrico officiated at her wedding.

Also a composer with a gift for the trumpet, Enrico Lopez-Yanez is principal pops conductor at the Nashville, Pacific and Detroit symphony orchestras. He says Broadway is big with Pacific Orchestra audiences. Not so in Nashville. There they go for rock, country and western, rhythm and blues. Detroit loves Motown and gospel. And Dallas? Dallas, it appears, craves the new. He has been charged with finding new artists, new shows.
