French entrepreneurs Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux opened their first restaurant East Mamma in Paris in 2015 and the business has since swelled to include two sites in London, one in Madrid and 10 across France.

French entrepreneurs Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux founded Big Mamma Group on the desire to bring back all the warmth and generosity of traditional small trattorias in Italy. The pair opened their first restaurant East Mamma in Paris in 2015 and the business has since swelled to include two sites in London, one in Madrid and 10 across France.

Our first ambition with Big Mamma was about bringing the best Italian products from artisanal, family run suppliers to Paris, London and Madrid. With delivery we thought, why should that change? We are aware today that many people, especially in delivery, consume mass-produced food. Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s for example all occupy a dominant position in the delivery market. Why? Because they promise to be cheap and fast, and that is what the customer wants.

We first found them by visiting our favourite restaurants and trattorias in Italy and asking which suppliers they work with. The difficulty was getting these family run businesses to agree to trust us enough to ship abroad, which they had never done before. All of these suppliers have so much demand for their products and that is only at a local level.

Today, we have a lot of artisanal suppliers, such as Emmanuele Camarrota’s burrata from South Puglia and Parma ham from Stefano Borchini, and they fortunately now recommend their friends to work with us as well.
