Meet the new CEO guiding University Health's expansion across Bexar County, Texas
Two months into his job as the new president and CEO of University Health , Ed Banos was ready for the long Labor Day Weekend . He said he’d been “running fast” since July 1, when George Hernández retired after 19 years leading the sprawling public health system. And Banos was a week closer to being able to watch the Steelers — his hometown team. The Pittsburgh native joined University Health in 2015 and most recently was executive vice president and chief operating officer.
University Health starts work on South Side hospital, with another planned in Selma But even though Banos, 59, had worked with Hernández for years, he said he hadn’t realized the extra time his boss was putting in outside the office. Now that he knows, Banos said, the extra 10 or 20 hours a week don’t bother him. His parents immigrated from Germany and Hungary after World War II.
University Health makes plans to build two new hospitals It’s interesting that we’re building the exact same hospital in two locations so if staff go between them they’ll know where everything is. So we’re looking at the efficiencies that come with that, and with our new electronic medical record system we’ve had for four years. We’ve also seen some of the newest, greatest technologies.
