Meet cutes are not always so serendipitous at Central Saint Martins, but when bright-eyed 18-year-olds Freddy Coomes and Matt Empringham got paired together on their first foundation course assignment, the creative connection was instant. With a voracious appetite to make, they took the brief to translate an artist’s work into a garment and ran with it.
“Our work is based on chance,” explain the pair, who received a reality check after the first Monday in May, when several friends requested the same faux-suede mini commissioned by Lambert for Miller – two fashion figureheads who have both done more for the designers than any expensive ad placement could have.
