Mexico City has always been international and arty and on the upswing, but it lately seems to have reached a boiling point.

, a local native who grew up in the city’s art world and returned home after a decade in the U.S. to make her own mark on it.

The trio’s CVs and geographic histories are emblematic of the new Mexico City creative class: global, mobile, and defiantly uncategorizable. And while the city has always been international, arty, and on the upswing, it seems to have reached a boiling point as of late.

This same sense of possibility is reflected in the way the women, and their peers, are dressing these days. Though the art world is well established in Mexico, “I think the thing about fashion here is that it’s a relatively embryonic thing,” Wu says. “There’s so much experimentation because it’s in that exciting early stage.”

Two days before the opening, the trio sat down in the then-under-construction space to talk supporting designer friends, day-versus-night dressing, and the one wardrobe item no self-respecting local would leave home without.
