That telescope will have a unique ability to closely study the atmospheres of exoplanets, and since GJ 887’s planets are among the closest to us, they will be prime candidates for a proper close-up study. It’s is a star just 10.7 light years distant, making it the 12th-closest star to our Solar System. In fact, it’s the most massive red dwarf within six parsecs of the Sun.; it appears to move against background stars.
From our perspective, GJ 887 is in the constellation of Piscis Austrinus, the “southern fish,” which is visible only from the southern hemisphere. At magnitude 7.34, it’s just a little bit too faint to see with the naked eye, but it only requires a small telescope.
