Designer Duran Lantink has gone on to design pieces for Billie Eilish, Janelle Monáe, Doja Cat—and most recently, Beyoncé. After making his mark on Amsterdam Fashion Week, he now has his sights set on Paris Couture.
The designer, whose fashion can be seen on Beyoncé in her latest Tiffany & Co. campaign, made his mark on Amsterdam Fashion Week—and is moving on to Paris Couture.Only the designer Duran Lantink could bring together Spanish DJ and performance artist Virgen Maria, Steve Madden shoes, and live strippers in the Red Light District for a truly theatrical, eye-popping runway presentation during Amsterdam Fashion Week.
The list of extreme upcycling projects Lantink has been involved in is endless. He had his first runway show just last year; for his May 2022 presentation follow-up, he tapped members of SistaazHood, a support group for trans women sex workers in Cape Town, with whom he’s worked for almost a decade, to host a cinematic and emotional show in which each model styled themselves.
Because of that, Lantink’s pieces are one-offs, each unique. “I don’t want to necessarily call it couture, but I think it's very important that you find your unique style in a way,” he says of the main message behind his brand. “It’s important for the people that like my clothes or want to buy my clothes. They don't necessarily have to be part of a group or community. It could be very much individual persons that like to express themselves in a [certain] way.
