“Team-based approaches to care,” Harrington believes, will allow healthcare systems to help more patients with “the simple stuff: controlling diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol; smoking cessation; exercise; eating habits” — basic care that can prevent a range of serious health problems. There may be room to develop these skills if medical education takes a bold step and becomes less focused on memorizing facts.
