The City of Medina is looking to advertise for private ambulance companies to come to Medina to help with the increased number of non-emergency 911 calls.

Medina City Councilman Dennie Simpson discusses the increased number of non-emergency 911 calls that the city has received in recent years.MEDINA, Ohio -- City Council has approved an ordinance that would deal with an increase in non-emergency 911 calls in the city and Montville and Medina townships.

“There’s so many times that the staff at those facilities call 911 because that’s the only option of getting somebody transported to the hospital. Quite often, these are not emergency situations.” Mayor Dennis Hanwell submitted the ordinance last week that would allow the city to advertise for private ambulance companies outside of Medina County to come in and handle these types of calls.

“This in no way, shape or form would prevent the life support team from responding to 911 calls where they’re life-threatening,” said Simpson.
