After heavy rainfall soaked parts of Medina and Bandera counties, Medina Lake is finally starting to see its water levels rise.
Medina Lake is finally being replenished. After years of drought caused water levels to fall, recent rainfall in Medina and Bandera County has helped to move the needle in a positive direction. Water levels have risen more in the past two days than it had at any time in the past five years. Years-long drought Severe drought has taken a massive toll on many South Texas lakes over the past few years, and no lake has been more affected than Medina Lake , just 40 miles west of San Antonio .
Lake levels have started to respond, too. As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Medina Lake's surface elevation had risen to 974.91 feet, which is 4.86 feet higher than just two days earlier. It’s the largest rise the lake has seen since October 2018, when the lake rose by 8.9 feet during the course of the month. The largest factor behind Medina Lake’s recent rise is not the rain that fell directly over the lake.
