Medical school students teach science class, mentor Jack Yates students who want to work in health care

In the Healthcare Collaborative, medical students serve as mentors to students who are interested in pursuing a career in health sciences.Now, he's a third-year medical student at the University of Houston's Tilman J.

Ahmad and his peers at Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine pitched the idea of bringing the program to Jack Yates to both the medical college and the high school. They got the greenlight from both institutions, and in 2021 they held their first class. “Cry,” one of the students said, and stifled giggles rippled through the classroom. He smiled, and told the student, that was a likely outcome, but then explained they would need to immobilize it until they could get medical attention. He then showed the students how to create a sling with a splint and swathe. They then split off into small groups to practice on each other.
