Personal Finance | Medical schemes concerned about rising mental illness claims
Medical schemes have flagged rising mental illness claims as a concern which has led to several schemes announcing enhancements to their mental wellbeing programmes.This is particularly high in the 18 to 44 age groups . Mental health was also a key driver for absenteeism in corporate groups.
Depression is the condition affecting the majority – 60% – of members diagnosed with a mental health condition . Women are 1.8 times more likely than men to claim through the Income Continuation Benefit for mental health related reasons. However, life cover claims related to suicide are 2.2 times more likely to be for men than women.
