The country’s cybersecurity coordinator Darren Goldie says protecting against hacks needs to become integral to people’s lives and the way businesses operate.
Customers of Optus, Medibank and Latitude Financial who had their sensitive personal details splashed over the web now understand the pain of a hack, but Australians are still putting themselves at risk, says Air Marshal Darren Goldie.
Companies too must approach cybersecurity as a central risk, and move away from relying solely on technology experts and workplace security teams to protect against hacks. “The winds of cyber will not abate, and when you can’t change the direction of the wind – you need to adjust your sails. Cybersecurity is now at the top of the agenda. It’s now where it needs to be – front of everybody’s mind.”with a broad remit to lead national cyber policy, co-ordinate responses to major incidents, and be a focal point for organisations and the public when incidents are unfolding.
