I love to learn and share the amazing hardware and services being built to enable Artificial Intelligence, the next big thing in technology.
MediaTek has announced four new SoCs for the next-gen automotive cockpit, the first to leverage Nvidia ADAS hardware and software.
Last year, MediaTek announced it is collaborating with Nvidia to incorporate the AI leader’s technology into the next-gen automotive platform. Nvidia would provide the tech for ADAS, and Mediatek would provide the silicon and software for in-cabin information and entertainment. Seems like a match made in heaven, with both companies doing what they do best.
MediaTek is somewhat a new player in automotive cockpit infotainment silicon and software, going up against the leader, Qualcomm Technologies, as well as in-house designed alternatives. Since a car is becoming a smart phone on wheels, MediaTek has already established itself with its Arm-based application processor, display controllers, and 5G modems needed to enter the automotive market.
But tackling the ADAS and autonomous driving by themselves would be a monumental task; consequently partnering with Nvidia makes a lot of sense. And the collaboration is already producing results announced at this week’s Nvidia GTC event.Announced last year, the new Dimensity line of SoCs hopes to offer a full range of advanced cockpit experiences at a lower cost than many competitors.
