CYBERJAYA: Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC) aims to attract RM49bil worth of digital investments and enlarge the sector’s gross domestic product (GDP) contribution to 25.5% by 2025 from 23.2% at present.

MDEC chief executive officer Mahadhir Aziz said he is cautiously optimistic about the outlook for digital investments despite the general expectations of moderating global economic growth this year.

Mahadhir said China’s reopening is another catalyst to drive the region’s economic activities and increase the number of investments into Malaysia. Mahadhir said attracting digital investments, be they foreign direct investments or domestic direct investments would remain one of MDEC’s main concerns. He projected that the new investments in the digital sector would surpass the target outlined in the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint of RM70bil by 2025.
