The MCU seems to be preparing to debut a third Avengers roster ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, according to a new theory surrounding Disney+'s new show, Wonder Man. It's likely Wonder Man's West Coast Avengers will join the many other factions preparing to battle Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
Wonder Man Seems Set to Introduce a New Avengers Roster Disney+ has started releasing new info about Wonder Man, with recent trailers revealing that Hollywood will be enforcing a ban on superhumans following the actions of new hero Doorman. Meanwhile, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Simon Williams will be hiding his own superpowers while auditioning for a superhero role. While Wonder Man has starred in some of his own comics, he's overwhelming associated with a team called the West Coast Avengers. Given the new details about the show and the way Marvel is setting up as many teams as possible to take on Doctor Doom, it's likely the show will end by assembling a new WCA roster, with Wonder Man at its heart. The MCU Is Building an Army of Superhero Teams In recent movies, Marvel has been building up as many teams as possible, seemingly so it can face Doctor Doom with a superhero army. The Thunderbolts have become the New Avengers , while the X-Men and Fantastic Four have appeared in recent teasers trailers, and a Young Avengers debut has been teased for years. It's therefore entirely in-character for Marvel to introduce yet another Avengers roster into the mix, having already turned the New vs Original Avengers rivalry into a plot point. Avengers: Doomsday will star every conceivable Marvel team, and Wonder Man is perfectly timed to introduce one more... How Wonder Man Can Introduce a New Avengers Roster Recent details about Wonder Man reference two different Avengers teams who will likely be merged in MCU lore. First, the West Coast Avengers. Debuting in 1984, the West Coast Avengers are an LA-based team of heroes intended to give America better coast-to-coast protection. Iron Man, Spider-Woman and Wonder Man are longtime members, though there have been several iterations. If Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Simon Williams is a superhuman , the West Coast Avengers would be his natural home. Then there's the Great Lakes Avengers. This team are essentially treated as a joke - a group of Z-list heroes who use the Avengers name without permission. Despite this, they have saved the world in the past. Doorman is one of the team's longest serving members and has never appeared without them - if his misadventures are a major plot point, surely the GLA will be significant.Who Else Could Serve on Wonder Man's West Coast/Great Lakes Avengers? Given the Doorman Clause forbids superhumans from working in Hollywood, there's a whole superpowered subculture waiting to gather around Wonder Man during or after his Disney+ series. Likely candidates include Mister Immortal and She-Hulk. Both were introduced in Disney+s She-Hulk, with Jennifer Walters starting out as the Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Craig Hollis' Mister Immortal is an undying bigamist who fakes his death and flees to a new locale whenever his age begins to become suspicious. It wouldn't be surprising to see either of these Disney+ heroes walking around Hollywood, and grouping the four together would already create a pretty perfect fusion of the two Avengers teams from the comics. Will Wonder Man Introduce the West Coast Avengers? Wonder Man and Doorman are both heavily associated with their respective teams, even more absolutely than heroes like Captain America or Iron Man. Given the new details fans know about the upcoming show, it seems like Simon Williams' journey will leave him as Earth's newest superhero. While it's possible he'll be recruited to Sam Wilson's Avengers roster, there are already a lot of new faces to choose from for that team. Wonder Man's proximity to Doorman, and the presence of several other heroes with LA ties, makes it more probable that we'll see some version of the West Coast Avengers, even if not by that name. It seems that the MCU is setting up a similar arc to Infinity War/Endgame, with an army of superheroes attacking Doctor Doom, only to fail and face an even bigger threat in the next movie. If that's the case, then the more teams the better, and it's likely Wonder Man's West Coast Avengers will join the many other factions prepping to battle Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
