From Cyclops to Gambit, here are eight mutant characters the MCU’s eventual X-Men reboot must fix after the Fox X-Men franchise ruined them.
The X-Men are heading to the MCU, and there are several mutant characters that Marvel needs to fix after the Fox movies failed them. After an entire decade in which seeing the X-Men interacting with the Avengers seemed impossible, Marvel Studios can now use mutants as part of its cinematic universe.
Cyclops spends most of X-Men 2 off-screen after being kidnapped by Striker, and in X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Scott is killed by Jean Grey right at the beginning. Cyclops returned in the X-Men prequel timeline with X-Men: Apocalypse, and while there was a bit more to the character than in the original films, Scott was still far from being the X-Men leader from the comics.
6 Storm Halle Berry’s Storm had a major role in the original X-Men trilogy. In fact, Storm was the X-Men leader Cyclops never was, especially in The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, when it comes to displaying how powerful Storm really is, the X-Men movies did not do the character justice. Storm’s actions scenes were limited to levitation and throwing lighting bolts, which should be just a small fraction of what Storm can do.
4 Darwin The Fox X-Men movies failed to portray the abilities of many mutants, but no example comes close to what X-Men: First Class did to Darwin. In the comics, Darwin’s mutant ability is being able to adapt to any situation. Darwin’s body was set to constant, instant evolution, meaning that it was largely impossible to hurt or kill him, as Darwin would always find a way to protect himself and survive whatever deadly situation.
