Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he has full confidence in the police force currently keeping the situation under control.
“However, if we are left with no choice; if the rate of adherence to the MCO is only 60 or 70 per cent, I believe there a possibility the armed forced would be mobilised. “We are confident the police are able to control the situation, but more important is self-discipline among the people to adhere to instructions issued by the government, rather than imposing authority,” he told a Press conference in a live telecast today.
Police have warned of possible arrest of those wandering about without any purpose under the Prevention and Control Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967. The government has placed the entire country under MCO until March 31 in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection, with the latest tally at 790 cases, including 117 infections reported yesterday.
