JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has recorded about 45% drop in vessel traffic along the Straits Of Malacca, which used to be a busy route before the movement control order (MCO) was imposed.

State health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said there would be 200 to 300 vessels that pass the straits on a daily basis before the MCO began on March 18.

“MMEA has also placed 145 officers and personnel to control and patrol the state water area since the MCO started, ” he said in a statement here on Monday . He added that MMEA has also ensured that those who are caught carrying out fishing activities are advised to go home, while the type A and B fishermen boat are allowed to continue to operate during MCO.

Vidyananthan also informed that the Fire and Rescue Department has conducted public sanitation exercise at 632 locations across the state from March 27 until April 12. The exercises started at 9am until midnight daily covering areas from Johor Baru, Muar and Batu Pahat.
